SECOSUD 2 Project is organizing an International Conference / Workshop on June 22 and 23 at the Pedagogic Complex of the Eduardo Mondlane University Main Campus.
Many representatives of governmental and research institutions, as well as cooperation agencies, will gather to exchange experiences and discuss about the integration of the Three Rio Conventions of the UN on environment (CBD, UNCCD, UNFCCC).
The Workshop aims at presenting concrete scientific and management tools identified by the SECOSUD Project, as well as experiences and contributions from other actors operating in the SADC region, contributing to synergies among the three Rio Convention at the country level. Country leadership and the support of development cooperation are critical for identifying and making good use of scientific and management tools and, consequently, for a coherent and synergistic implementation of the Rio Conventions.
The workshop will be organized in a time frame of 2 days with a protocol introduction followed by a presentation on the role of international cooperation for Rio conventions implementation as a donor’s perspective on the theme.
The scientific and technical contributions will be organized in 2 panels: “National experiences” and “Local experiences, training and awareness raising”.
The second day of workshop will be organized as a round table to discuss the contribution of the SECOSUD project in synergy with existing initiatives to consolidate the capacities of decision-makers responsible for land planning and management of natural resources, as well as promoting their use in support of the harmonization of land management processes at the national, regional and international levels toward boosting biodiversity conservation and sustainable economic development in the SADC region.
