One of the collaborators of the project SECOSUD II Italian Cooperation attended in the practical training workshop of 6 days on advanced bioinformatics, which took place from 19 to 24 August 2017 in Gorongosa National Park, under the leadership of Dr. Piotr Naskrecki, deputy Director of E.O. Wilson Biodiversity Laboratory.
The workshop provided a learning forum for the application of bioinformatics to the participants from different areas of Mozambique and representatives from five of the country’s main educational institutions.
Were presented topics such as introduction to bioinformatics ; creation, importance and maintenance of biological collections; management of biological databases; international standards for the sharing of biological information; national and international laws governing biological data and specimens; collection methods; preservation and identification of species; as well as practical activities of collecting and recording biological data, such as building a simple biological database and what resources to use to document and preserve biological diversity.
The collaborator of SECOSUD participant of the workshop felt satisfied with the skills and knowledge of acquired bioinformatics as they are very relevant to their work environment.
